Small businesses are ever growing in popularity and accessibility. The Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management concentration of the Bachelor of Business Administration will prepare you to work with these small businesses or even start your own. From marketing to finance, this comprehensive concentration will provide you with the tools you need to oversee the success of a small business. Each course contains practical applications of business administration concepts from the small business perspective to ensure that you are prepared to achieve your goals upon graduation.

If so, the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management concentration within the B.B.A. program just might be for you. The program is designed to give you knowledge of the principles of entrepreneurship and small business. You’ll be prepared to own or run a small business and everything those careers entail -- from communication, marketing and human resource management to finance, accounting and information systems. It’ll all be capped by a small business internship
You’ll graduate with the knowledge you need to run a small business.
Whether you want to own the business or manage someone else’s, you’ll be ready. In addition to core classes in accounting, business and economics, management, finance, business law, business policies, marketing and other, the classes within the entrepreneurship and small business management will focus on the unique array of needs a small business faces.
You’ll have a mentor to help along the way.
Every student majoring in entrepreneurship and small business management will be paired with a successful entrepreneur or small business operator to guide and mentor them throughout their academic career. Your mentor will walk alongside you through the business plan process, advise you as necessary and help you find real-world experience through an internship.
You’ll receive the hands-on skills you need to succeed.
Any small business owner will tell you there’s so much about small business ownership that you can’t learn in an academic setting; it must be learned through experience. With multiple field experiences and internships as part of your program, you’ll get the hands-on experience you need to succeed upon graduation.

Business Communication
BUS 2250
Focuses on the development of the communication skills necessary for effective management. Interpersonal, small group, and organizational communications are considered. Both written and oral communication skills are emphasized.

Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management
BUS 2300
Designed to teach the student concepts and skills needed to succeed in an entrepreneurial venture. It will include understanding unique characteristics an entrepreneur should possess, and it will view marketing, economics, finance, accounting, management, communication and legal issues from a small business perspective.

An in-depth examination of the core business principles involved in the creation and management of a small business including concept development, financing, production, marketing, sales, accounting systems, and management.

Emphasizes the role of human resources management in an effective organization. Topics include personnel planning, recruitment, selection, training, and performance appraisal, among others.

Information Systems in Business
ITI 3600
This course provides a managerial understanding of hardware, software, networking, and database technologies to form a foundation for formulating the value proposition delivered by timely and accurate information. Automation, transaction processing, management information, decision support, business intelligence, and enterprise resource planning systems will all be addressed. In short, students will examine how information systems can be utilized in the management of business knowledge and processes, as well as the potential to contribute to competitive advantage.

Introduction to basic accounting and finance principles specifically for small businesses. Addresses issues unique to small business owners in managing and reporting business activity as well as in raising funds.

An onsite practical learning experience with an approved small business where students will spend 80 hours over the course of a semester observing and working with a small business owner.
