The Curriculum and Online Teaching Program is designed to meet a variety of needs within the educational profession. This degree does NOT lead to teacher licensure, but is a great option for in-state, out-of-state and international students who already hold a teaching license and want to advance their credentials. This online master’s degree is based on best-practice standards from both the National Board for Professional Teaching and the International Society for Technology in Education. The degree is 100 percent online, with books and materials delivered to your front door. You’ll take one course at a time and participate in an online learning cohort with other students as you complete the program together in 15-16 months. You’ll also develop an e-portfolio that will demonstrate the expertise you’ve gained in online learning initiatives.
This program equips classroom teachers, instructional coaches, principals and deans for a variety of career opportunities associated with online learning. You’ll discover how to provide a quality online learning experience for students and facilitate professional development for faculty members. In addition, you’ll be trained to bring an understanding of the essentials of remote learning to school-age parents through workshops and communication avenues. At a district level, graduates of the program are prepared to provide instructional leaders with the tools needed to coordinate online learning for a large number of schools throughout a region.

Technology Integration in Teaching and Learning
EDU 6100
Focuses on integrating technology into instructional content. Candidates will experience emerging technologies and classroom hardware/software. They will also develop instructional technology and technology presentation skills. Candidates will use technologies for instructional improvement that will include consideration of candidate achievement data, research, technology plans, and community relations.

Instructional Design
EDU 6110
Course is an introduction to the instructional design process with a focus on developing instructional goals, objectives and assessment outcomes. Learners will investigate the various elements that should be considered in the design process such as: needs assessment, common instructional problems, learner characteristics, task analysis, content sequencing, instructional strategies, instructional delivery, evaluation instruments, instructional resources (media selection), formative evaluation, and summative evaluation.

Leading Curricular Change
EDU 6120
Focuses on research and best practices that facilitate curriculum development. Standards will be analyzed regarding their impact on curriculum development. Candidates will investigate curriculum change, network and make learning links with diverse colleagues, investigate how to develop high quality curriculum, and learn about the impact that transforming a curriculum can have in raising the quality of teaching and learning and in improving outcomes for students. The candidate will focus on leading educational change through the use of distributive leadership.

Copyright Laws for Online Learning and Development
EDU 6130
This course will teach the basics of copyright laws, fair use guidelines, and ADA compliance regulations relevant to the design process. Learners will investigate the idea of intellectual property as it applies to P-12 schools. The goal is to provide learners with a practical framework for analyzing copyright issues that they encounter in their professional work. This course will use real-life examples—some of them quite complex—to help learners get used to the systematic analysis of copyright problems in course design. This course is intentionally a step toward bridging the gulf that is often perceived between desirable educational practice and legally permissible activities.

Curriculum Planning and Instructional Practice

Focuses on the assessment of quality curriculum and instructional practices. Candidates will demonstrate instructional strategies, inquiry based learning, organizational skills, and the integration of technology. They will also engage in using methodologies for monitoring, assessing, and supporting quality instruction.

Interactive and Digital Tools for Learning
EDU 6150
Course focuses on the design and development of various forms of interactive instructional media to support learning. This course will provide experiences in investigating, designing, developing and integrating a variety of interactive instructional media and mobile devices.

Field Experience
EDU 6160
Provides hands-on learning experience in environments in collaboration with practicing school educators. Assessment feedback will be included from course instructors in EDU 6150 and EDU 6170. Emphasis is placed on instructional strategies and the integration of technology.

Issues in Instructional Design and Technology Integration
EDU 6170
Course is designed to examine how technology can facilitate instructional practices. Students will explore instructional software, online resources, and synchronous and asynchronous methods in technology mediation. Learners will study variables that affect P-12 learning, techniques for stimulating and sustaining student motivation, and how to reinforce learning to a global audience.

Inclusive Practices in Teaching and Learning
EDU 6180
Focuses on the impact of economic disparities within neighborhoods and predicts the impact on local schools. Areas of emphasis will include: differentiated instruction, special education, inclusionary practices, legal and ethical issues, and community relations. The goal is to identify instructional and assessment practices that promote technological equity in the classroom.

P-12 Online Course Design
EDU 6190
This course explores methods for designing courses for P-12 students through non-traditional methods. Students learn and practice how to design a course online, which includes setting up the course in an online platform, creating lessons and assignments, providing feedback in a variety of modalities, assessing, and setting up a grade book. How to flip a classroom to get P-12 students more involved in their own learning is another method that is examined. Emphasis is placed on students’ chosen content areas as they create lessons, assignments for each course design.

Exit Assessment/E-Portfolio
EDU 6200
Beginning with the first course of the Curriculum and Online Teaching (COT) program, the e-portfolio will be a work in progress for the duration of the program. This collection of work will include a compilation of artifacts that demonstrate the candidates’ expertise in the National Board and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards. The e-portfolio will serve as the culminating activity and is required for completion of the COT program.

Admissions Requirements
- Have earned a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by a CHEA-recognized regional accrediting agency or the Association for Biblical Higher Education. Students who do not meet these degree requirements may be conditionally accepted in accordance with the Conditional Admission Policy
- 2.7 cumulative GPA for all prior coursework
- Provide a photocopy of government-issued identification (e.g., driver's license, state ID, military ID, passport). This requirement ensures that Trevecca complies with the U.S. Department of Education expectations for student verification. (This is only required for students enrolled in an online program.)
- You must complete fingerprinting and a background check
- An interview and writing sample. You will be contacted by the School of Education to schedule your interview once all pieces have been turned in.
- Some proficiency with computer technology and reliable access to technology throughout the program
