Assistant Professor, Biology

  • BS, University of Alabama in Huntsville
  • PhD, Vanderbilt University

Dr. Judy Brown is from Buffalo, NY. In hopes of warmer climates, she attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville where she received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. She fell in love with the hands-on nature of laboratory work as a student researcher and decided to continue her education in the field of Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University. In graduate school, Dr. Brown worked to understand how environmental factors such as viral infections lead to the onset of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, specifically focusing on celiac disease. This project brought together her interests at the interface of virology and immunology and helped advance knowledge about the pathogenesis of this disease. She looks forward to continuing this research with students at Trevecca and plans to identify which viral strains are circulating in the Nashville area that may influence the onset of celiac disease locally.
