Trevecca’s Schofield named to diversity council board of Association for Applied Sports Psychology

Dr. Terrence Schofield, the associate provost for mission excellence and reconciliation at Trevecca Nazarene University, has accepted a volunteer position on the board of the Diversity Council with the Association for Applied Sports Psychology (AASP). The committee’s role is to recommend strategies and directives to AASP’s executive board for creating a more inclusive community for members. 

AASP is a global organization that provides sports psychology consultants and other professionals to athletes, coaches and more, including those on the USA Olympic and Paralympic Teams, professional sports teams, colleges and universities. They have over 2,500 members in 55 countries. AASP’s values of excellence, diversity and service align with Schofield’s experience and expertise. 

Schofield has been involved with diversity leadership and mental health throughout his career. He has served as director of social services at The Helin Institute in Sacramento, California; resident clinical psychologist at Abingdon Psychological Services in Virginia; and director of global diversity for Promise Keepers. He currently leads diversity training and implements diversity initiatives at Trevecca.

Schofield’s role will involve ensuring the AASP honors its commitment to diversity. The objectives of the council will be continuously modified as the organization grows in its commitment and responsiveness to making diversity central to its mission.
